D-Wave Moves Further into AI

D-Wave Releases Open-Source Quantum AI Toolkit (Source)

  • D‑Wave published a press release on August 4, 2025, announcing the release of an open‑source quantum AI toolkit that integrates its annealing QPUs with PyTorch, allowing developers to build machine‑learning models like restricted Boltzmann machines.

  • The accompanying demo demonstrates how the toolkit can be used to generate simple images via quantum-enhanced generative AI.

  • Use cases already underway include a drug‑discovery proof‑of‑concept with Japan Tobacco Inc., enhanced protein‑DNA binding prediction with Forschungszentrum JĂĽlich, and high‑energy physics simulations with TRIUMF.

Takeaway: This toolkit marks a practical milestone in merging quantum computing with AI workflows—making experimentation accessible and nudging the industry toward real-world quantum-assisted model training. Analysts are bullish.

IBM Improves Processes for Decoding

IBM Debuts Relay-BP, a Faster and More Accurate Decoder for qLDPC Error Correction (Source)

  • On August 4, 2025, IBM researchers announced Relay-BP, which they describe as the fastest and most accurate quantum low-density parity-check (qLDPC) decoder yet. The release includes links to the open-access preprint and source code, making it available for the broader research community to explore and build upon.

  • Internal benchmarks show up to 10Ă— better accuracy compared to BP+OSD decoders, while maintaining the speed and compactness necessary for FPGA-based real-time decoding—critical for practical fault-tolerant quantum computing.

  • IBM plans to integrate Relay-BP into real-device testing as early as 2026, aligning it with the company’s multi-year roadmap toward scalable, fault-tolerant quantum systems.

Takeaway: Relay-BP makes quantum error correction faster and more accurate, helping quantum computers handle mistakes in real time—an important step toward building bigger and more reliable machines.

IBM & Moderna Team Up

Quantum Simulation Breakthrough: IBM & Moderna’s Record mRNA Run (source)

  • In collaboration, IBM and Moderna used IBM’s R2 Heron quantum processor (up to 80 qubits) to simulate a 60-nucleotide mRNA structure—setting a new simulation length record.

  • Their quantum simulation included complex features like pseudoknots that traditional methods often exclude.

  • Future scaling targets include simulations with up to 354 qubits for even more accurate modeling.

Takeaway:  Quantum computing is improving biological modeling, with potential impact on mRNA vaccine innovation.
